Making rules for detector bookings is tricky since the rules have to be flexible enough to handle the sometimes unpredictable events in data collection yet strict enough to allow efficient and fair usage of the detectors. In many cases problems can be prevented by planning ahead and promptly informing the next user about when the beam becomes available. If there are reasonable practical concerns that are not addressed by the rules below then you can ask Andrew or Phil in case you want to use the LMB detectors, or Randy for the CIMR detector.
REALLY TRY HARD to auto-index BEFORE starting data collection. You need this information to collect your data efficiently. Furthermore, if you can't auto-index, the data is almost certainly not worth collecting at all!!!
REALLY TRY HARD to integrate the first images AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If you want to find out if your data collection parameters are reasonable then NOW is the time to find out. If the data quality turns out not to be good enough then DON'T collect in the hope you will be able to get someting out later. Experience shows that you won't.
