My laboratory has been working for a number of years on understanding the molecular basis of E. coli food poisoning. (In North America, this disease is commonly called hamburger disease.) Together with our collaborators, we are gradually getting closer to the ultimate goal of developing new treatments.
These web pages provide some background on the disease and the role of the toxins, and show how the understanding of cell-surface binding might be exploited in the development of new therapies.
